Construction

Crafting custom homes since 1978.

Your guide through
every phase of building

Quality means building homes and spaces that are beautiful and comfortable, and meet our clients’ needs and expectations. Perhaps more importantly, quality means building structures that perform well, stand the test of time, are low maintenance, and have a minimum impact on natural landscapes.

Our construction managers work in a design-build mindset, which is a commitment to teamwork and communication. We are the fulcrum between the visioning team—owners and designers—and the build team—the crews and vendors who bring the design to life. Our goal is to seek solutions and achieve balance. We understand details can change during construction of a project, and we believe our job as construction managers is to be flexible, to work with the team to find solutions, and to manage the operations and scheduling so that the crews in the field can have a singular focus: completing the job with excellence.

The final result is meticulously constructed in every way—perfect with respect to the plans, made from top quality materials, and built with unsurpassed workmanship. It is everything I had hoped for.

Built to last

Our buildings perform well in Maine’s rugged environment, stand the test of time, remain low maintenance, and have a minimum impact on natural landscapes. Our preconstruction managers draw from their deep-rooted Maine connections, assembling a team of trusted subcontractors and vendors to guide your project before and through construction. With our commitment to sustainability, we always try to source our materials as close to the project site as possible.

A structure in Maine is subject to a particularly harsh environment that requires special attention to detail. Controlling the elements—water, air, and thermal energy—is one of the primary functions any building must provide. Each of these elements presents its own challenges and as building materials and practices have changed and advanced, our innovation team has stayed on the cutting edge of building performance.

A network of
Maine’s experts

Our team has established strong relationships with the best local subcontractors, suppliers, craftspeople, and specialized workforce.

I suspect Knickerbocker Group has been inundated with pleas for help since the storms in January wreaked havoc. While we incurred some damage, we were relatively unscathed as two homes just south of us were essentially destroyed. We wanted you to know that your construction, now around twenty years ago, held up in excellent shape withstanding ferocious winds and 35-foot waves breaking over the ledges and against the house.
