ABOUT

Julien Jalbert, AIA

Design Studio Leader, Architecture, Licensed Architect, ME, NH, MA

Julien grew up in rural New Hampshire with a father who is a self-taught architect and builder. His interest in design and construction was sparked at an early age, helping his dad with light framing, finish carpentry, and electrical work at his childhood home. After attending Northeastern University and receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in architecture, Julien took his knowledge of woodworking and new architectural education to pursue furniture building as a hobby, which he grew to love. After working in the field for a few years, he returned to Northeastern for his Master of Architecture degree and has since obtained architectural licensing in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

As a Design Studio Leader, Julien oversees the design process for many of our custom residential projects. With a keen eye for detail and a special interest in incorporating sustainable materials and building practices into each design, Julien brings his passion and knowledge to every project he touches. Additionally, Julien played a crucial role in the creation of Knickerbocker Group’s Prefabrication Division. What began as a passion project, has grown into its own division at the firm specializing in carefully constructed prefab pods made from as many renewable materials as possible, sourced as close to Maine as available. Julien’s vision and ongoing dedication continue to be critical to the growth of this endeavor.

Julien’s past professional experience includes fine dining, institutional and high-end residential design. His designs have also been the recipient of a 2019 AIA Maine Design Award for Stoneview Barn and a 2021 AIA Maine People’s Choice Award for Stoneview Barn.

After living in the Boston area for 10+ years, Julien and his wife Sarah relocated to Maine to enjoy a simpler life. They enjoy spending time with their two young sons and exploring all that the Maine coast has to offer.

Life in Maine

Enjoying Maine’s quiet, simpler way of life with days spent by the sea with his wife and children or exploring the natural beauty of Maine’s woods, trees, and mountains. The people of Maine are also essential to Julien’s love of the state—he views them as hardworking, pleasant, and neighborly.
